It’s everywhere, we see it during elections, with anything political in the news, in advertisements on web, the promotion of candidates and organizations. It’s big, bold, and sans serif display typeface is usually what gets picked when designing around Political typography. The wording tends to follow and image or a symbol that many are familiar with already. Something recognizable and eye-catching with the design. It is important that it grab someones attention as an advertisement because it promotes the ability for shared pointe of views and getting people to the polls. I noticed while looking for an image there is usually a lot of red, white, or blue incorporated in the the type and design. It is all very straightforward, short and concise copy layered with the design. In this series I found on fonts in use it uses Josh Finklea’s Centra No.2 (Sharp Type) as the main typeface. It is the most simplest in design and effective use of type and visual interest to attract the eye. This series was a branding and web design for eight women’s political organizations. It was done by Paula Scher and her team at Pentagram.
