Book cover design is important for many reasons, from attracting the reader in to pick up the book to helping convey the look and feel of the story content of the book. When we walk into bookstores, we are only looking at book covers. We rely on the cover itself to give us the feeling of interest to want to pick up that book we have never heard of. Even if we don’t purchase it and just check out the summary, it accomplished the goal of attracting a possible reader. Book covers carry important information, title, author, publisher, summary, visuals, colors, textures. How we pick any colors, textures, graphic symbols for our covers completely plays into our concept for the book. Any visual imagery placed onto it can give us an overall inside look of characters and settings. The color evokes the mood and tone of the book. Typefaces we chose to pair display the on personality and sometimes the genre of that book. All of these aspects bring the book to life for a reader all in one glance. This version of Harry Potter book covers achieves these things as well as creating a cohesive feeling as a set. The colors and symbolism on the cover relate to the content of the story. the silhouette look with texture in them gives it a more tactile sense of feeling. the scale and hierarchy between images and type is well-balanced and visually interesting and along with the structures move our eye through the cover design.
